Description
Class Experience
Students will improve reading fluency, written and oral comprehension and work on listening and discussion skills. Critical and creative thinking will also be practised each class. Students will employ different comprehension strategies for before, during and after reading.
I am a trained middle years ELA teacher of 16 years in my school.
There will be weekly reading (independent or with a family member), and expectation to finish activities that we have started in class.
The novel: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis (from a local library for free or a bookstore for around $15 usually) I will provide all handouts but they will often need to be printed out at your home Kahoot wesit will be used for trivia review games. There is no membership or account required but students will need to be able to navigate and log onto the kahoot page and enter a name for the trivia games.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Constructive feedback will be used to encourage student growth. Quizzes and chapter questions will be graded in an "out of 5" format unless parents request no formal grades.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
There is violence in this novel as they fight battles, characters are imprisoned and turned to stone and the scene where one character is killed is quite descriptive. The religious themes present in this novel will NOT be part of this class in any way. We will be using Kahoot! This is an outside website that will be used for review in the form of trivia challenges. There is no account needed but your childwill need to log onto the wesite and choose and enter a payers name.
