The English language has many words that sound alike, yet these pairs of words have different meanings. Sound confusing? At times, yes. That is why these words are coined homophones. In this class, we will unearth some of the homophones in the English language. You will be introduced to the words. Then you will have the opportunity to test your skills with these words to solidify your understanding of them. Examples of words are: advice/advise, their/there/they're, affect/effect, dessert/desert, and many others. We will go over each word, look at the definition, and see how they are used in a sentence. After the class, you will receive a list of 40 additional homophones as a bonus for attending. Right now is the time to get these homophones clarified; otherwise, it may perpetuate incorrectly in your writing in the future.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of how to use some of the homophones in the English language.
