***If you are joining this class after the start date please message me for a prorated price*** Join us to learn more about the homestead gardening. Students will watch related videos or view slides created by the teacher as we discuss gardening on the homestead. Each class will include optional after-class activities. The teacher will send out related links after class. Students are encouraged to ask questions during class. Topics include: Planning the garden, Starting Seeds, Planting, Herbs, Harvesting, Storage, & Preserving. ***Please click on the syllabus to learn more about each class and the related projects.*** **Students will receive YouTube video links after class on the message board. These are there for students who would like to rewatch (or watch the whole video). About the teacher: I have lived on a homestead my entire life in the mountains of the inland northwest (garden zones 5 & 6). I grew up on a multigenerational orchard/homestead. My husband also grew up in this lifestyle. When we married we started our own homestead. Currently, we have 3 cows, 6 sheep (plus lambs), 25 chickens, 3 guinea hens, 3 cats, and 3 dogs ... (I think we like the number 3. lol). We plant a large garden every year and our small orchard has pears, cherries, apples, plums, and peaches (yum). We are currently on-grid, but we'd love to be more off-grid in the future. **Policy** Per Outschool policy, if a student is more than 10 minutes late, it will be considered a missed class and not eligible for a refund. If no students have arrived at a group class by 12 minutes after the start time I will end the class. If a student needs to cancel class, I will offer a reschedule when possible or issue a refund, as long as I am notified more than 24 hours in advance. In the case of a teacher scheduling conflict, I will offer to reschedule the class or issue a refund for the missed class. Thank you so much for respecting my time. :o)

Hello!
My name is Kate. I am a homeschool mom, small farm owner, herbalist, gluten-free baker, online teacher, and lover of books. I have taught for over 20 years: home school, alternative education, small co-ops, and as a substitute in public schools. Additionally, I have taught English as a Second Language online with VIPKid and Cambly for over 6 years. It has been amazing meeting and working with students around the world. I love getting to know each of my students and helping them learn new things in a fun way.
All About Reading: 20 years ago, when I first began teaching reading, I was trained in the Spaulding reading method. Spaulding is based on Orton-Gillingham and is similar to the All About Reading Program. When I was introduced to All About Reading I was hooked. All About Reading provided the sequential layout that I loved from Spaulding in an easier layout. I also loved the games that provided a multi-sensory experience for my students. I love to use games when I am teaching. I think learning should be enjoyable. In my reading classes, we turn the All About Reading program into fun online games.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing your child in my class.
(A little about my family and philosophy: I have two homeschool graduates and two young learners. Throughout our homeschool journey, we learned, we grew, we did better next time, and we found success. I believe it is important to meet children where they are. To strengthen their weaknesses and support their strengths while having fun and encouraging them to be who they were meant to be. )
