Description
Class Experience
I have lived on a homestead my entire life in the mountains of the inland northwest (garden zones 5 & 6). I grew up on a multigenerational orchard/homestead. My husband also grew up in this lifestyle. When we married we started our own homestead. Currently, we have 3 cows, 6 sheep (plus lambs), 25 chickens, 3 guinea hens, 3 cats, and 3 dogs ... (I think we like the number 3. lol). We plant a large garden every year and our small orchard has pears, cherries, apples, plums, and peaches (yum). We are currently on-grid, but we'd love to be more off-grid in the future.
(week 1) Jar, (week 2) toilet paper tubes, (week 3) herb seeds, potting soil, planting container, (week 4) binder & paper, (week 6) bread recipe list will be provided the week before, (week 7) heavy whipping cream (dairy), non-dairy butter recipe will be provided the week before, (week 8) pizza box, aluminum foil, plastic wrap
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
I will send a Google Slide set to students from my Google Drive account for students to view lesson materials using Nearpod. Students will access Nearpod with a link or code I sent for each lesson. Students are encouraged to enter a nickname for privacy when signing into the lesson. If students use a code they will 1) Go to join.nearpod.com 2) Type in the code, 3) Put in a name or nickname. Some slides will access topic-related websites. Example: a garden zone finder. Additionally, some links in the handouts will have resources that require an email to access. These will not be required resources, only optional if the student and parent want to use them. For example, I share a garden journal template from a website with a lot of information, but it does require an email to receive it. Students will be watching age-appropriate Youtube videos, embedded into Google slides, related to homesteading skills. If you have concerns about a topic or platform please message me. I do my best to keep video topics light-hearted but complete.
