Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
I will work with learners individually to:

Oversee homeschooling subjects
Help keep on track with assignments
Provide direct instruction on needed topics and units
Assign homework and projects
Grade homework and projects
Offer guidance

My process:

Before the first session: A parent or caregiver can message me to discuss what their family needs in the way of homeschooling support. We will decide on a schedule.

First session: Building rapport and seeing what the learner feels are the biggest strengths and struggles

Second (and possibly third) session: Optional assessment of skills in subjects as needed
This could be formal or casual

Connect with parent or caregiver through messaging to solidify learning plan and adjust schedule if needed

Ongoing sessions: I will provide direct instruction, guided support, or feedback on topics as needed. I will ensure the learner has turned in assignments or is on track with ongoing projects for the subjects covered in our learning plan. I will continue to build rapport and foster confidence. I will incorporate learner interests into assignments and instruction where possible.

Homeschool Support requires significant time on my part outside of live sessions: planning, prepping learning activities, grading work, tracking progress, communicating with families, etc. One session per week is recommended per subject.

Other Details

Learning Needs
I am well-versed in supporting learners with neurodivergence, mental health issues, and life challenges. My priority is building a rapport, fostering their confidence, and then supporting their academics.
Parental Guidance
Building rapport and confidence are my priorities. This means I get creative with assignments. I will use learner's interests wherever possible to make learning meaningful. I take a holistic or "big picture" approach. We will be working towards mastery, not memorization. Learning may look very different here than in a typical classroom. Sometimes tasks and activities that look irrelevant actually have an important underlying purpose. If you have questions, reach out.
