45 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
***There will be no class June-August for summer break. Classes will resume weekly in September. Lately, we are finding that our students are missing out on some much needed social time. This class is for homeschool students or students who are doing virtual school for now. Each week I will have a topic/questions ready for students to discuss. We will get to know each other while practicing our zoom etiquette. There will likely be laughing! Conversation may evolve organically and that's great! No background knowledge is required for this course. Social interaction plays a huge role in learning. It is important for helping learners to organize their thoughts and opinions as well as helping to develop their problem-solving and decision-making skills. Acceptable behavior is learned through regular social interactions with peers. Join me for a fun get together with your peers! Topics to be discussed will be listed in the classroom at the beginning of the month for the next four weeks. Topics may include: travel, friends, family, future aspirations (career, family, etc), animals, free time activities, kindness, bullying, safety, goals, and favorite things.
Learning Goals
*Students will practice appropriate zoom/virtual learning etiquette.
*Students will practice presenting their thoughts and opinions constructively.
*Students will practice listening skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from UNC Charlotte
Hello, my name is Cara!
I have been teaching art since 2003 in school and studio environments. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Art from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My concentrations are in education and painting. I have experience teaching students as young as 3 up to adults. The majority of my in-school teaching experience was in grades 6-12. At my studio, I teach students weekly and also have classes for homeschool students, open studio, birthdays, graduations, and team-building. I love that online platforms allow teachers and students to connect across the world! What an amazing opportunity!
I love to create bright-colored abstract paintings, usually in acrylic or watercolor. I live with my husband and three dogs a short drive from my art studio! I look forward to meeting you!

**Class Policies:
*Please have learners log in 2-3 minutes before the scheduled class start time so that we can start on time.
*All class times are approximate. Class length may vary due to student ability and class size. Classes are designed to be no longer than the time allotted.
*Late/Missed Class Policy - All courses will begin on time as long as one learner is in the classroom. In the event that no students are in the classroom at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message on the discussion board and exit the classroom after 10 minutes. Class recordings are available upon request.
***Tardy Policy - Learners who have missed ten minutes or more of the class time should request a transfer. I will lock the meeting after ten minutes so that the students in class are not distracted by late students. Instruction is given step-by-step, so tardiness detracts from everyone's learning experience. I am happy to work with you to try to meet your scheduling needs and want each learner to have an optimal experience!
***I do not check or respond to messages while I am teaching classes. I will respond as soon as I can after class has ended.
*Certificates of completion are available upon request.
*Ongoing classes run from September through May. We will take a break for summer so that everyone can vacation and do summer camps.
