Aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
Exploring Earth's Moon is all about our closest neighbor the Moon. Each meeting your child will complete different activities to learn about our moon such as making impact craters, discussing different folklore about the moon, and other activities. While this is listed as a science class, it is a unit study of Earth's Moon, so the kids will complete activities from other subjects such as art and English. A PDF of the class supplies will be in the classroom so that it can be...

Week 1Lesson 1Class 1 Our MoonThe kids will make a moon facts infographic in class, but may have to finish it outside of class if our discussion runs long.Lesson 2Paper Batik Painting and Moon FolkloreWe will learn about different stories about the Moon and create a paper batik painting to illustrate one of the stories.Week 2Lesson 3Crater ImpactsWe will learn about crater impacts and conduct a science experiment making impact craters.Lesson 4SelenographyWe will learn about the different layers of the moon and make a model of the moon layers.
From the Next Generation Science Standards students will: Construct, use, and present arguments to support the claim that when the kinetic energy of an object changes, energy is transferred to or from the object. Construct and interpret graphical displays of data to describe the relationships of kinetic energy to the mass of an object and to the speed of an object. Ask questions and predict outcomes about the changes in energy that occur when objects collide. Use evidence to construct an explanation relating the speed of an object to the energy of that object. ESS1.B: Earth and the Solar System Art: Develop, present, and test ideas, plans, models, and proposals for media arts productions, considering the artistic goals and audience. Create content and combine components and sets of associated principles to convey expression, purpose, and meaning.
