Class Experience

US Grade 5
***Part I is not required to take Part 2***

From atoms to constellations, science is all around us. In this 12 week class, we will meet two times a week for 12 weeks. The kids will learn about different chemistry, physics and astronomy concepts which include the role of gravity, Earth and space, constellations, properties of matter, states of matter, and physical & chemical changes. I think learning about different science concepts is a great way to get kids interested in science because science plays a big part in our world.

Completion of this 12-week 5th Grade Science course will help your child develop their critical thinking skill such as problem solving, communication, and analysis by completing science experiments and activities. This course will also help to foster your child's curiosity.
The course meets twice weekly for 12 weeks (24 classes).

At times, I use visual graphics such as slideshows and videos in class so that the kids can see the concepts we are discussing. I also encourage questions and sharing any knowledge that the kids may have about the science concepts because that's how we learn.
We will be making a science interactive notebook, and the pages for the notebook will be posted in the classroom so that they can be printed for class.

We will be doing activities so that the kids can learn about the science concepts in different ways.
On the days that we do science activities, the kids will follow along with me as we do the activity. The supplies are listed in a PDF that I will post in the classroom. If you have any questions about the class or the supplies, please send me a message.

The learners will be making an interactive notebook, so they will need:
a 3 ring binder OR a two pocket folder with metal prongs so that notebook paper can be added

glue sticks
scissors
crayons, markers, or colored pencils
pencils with erasers

****All learners must be enrolled in the class to be fair to the other enrolled learners.****
****If none of the learners have joined after 10 minutes, then the class for that day will be cancelled.****
Learning Goals
Your child will learn the role of gravity in Earth's motion, the tides, and the Moon's phases as well as concepts about matter.
