Homeschool Reading- Learn to Love Reading: Remedial Class for 2nd & 3rd Graders

In this ongoing class, second and third graders will read slightly easier passages which will increase confidence and help them progress in reading. We will focus on phonetics and word context in order to decode unknown words. #academic

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 3
Children learn at different rates and, for some children, reading is especially difficult. This class is intended for second and third graders who struggle with reading. We will use phonics, context clues, easier reading passages, and sight word focus in order to help learners not only feel more confident about reading but also help them enjoy reading a bit more. We will adjust according to class ability until we find just the right level of stories. I have taught reading for 27 years and love to help children blend letters and recognize words. I am looking forward to helping your learner progress.
Week one 9/12 review of short and long vowels
Week two 9/19 beginning of blends starting with two letter blends
Week three 9/26 continuation of two letter blends
Week four 10/3 continuation of blends until learns understand and are able to use the concept consistently.
The weeks following will continue to progress at the class level.Hopefully we will progress to three letter blends and diphthongs.

Hi there! Miss Cindy here! I'm excited to take you into the world of learning, whether that is for an academic subject, such as math, reading, writing or tutoring or a social class which includes public speaking or social interaction.

TYPICAL CLASS ROUTINE:

Greeting/Get to know you time
Class time, including teaching of given topic and practice of that skill
Closing which may include a puppet, a game, or show and tell, depending on the type of class your learner is taking. My goal is to have every child smiling and excited to return to the next class!

TEACHING CREDENTIALS & STYLE:

Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education
27 years of brick and mortar classroom experience
Four years of experience teaching online
Recognized by Outschool as Outstanding Teacher, Popular Teacher, and Rising Star

I try to keep students engaged through a mix of hands on teaching and great student interaction. I enjoy learning about each child and making a connection that makes them want to return to class!

PHILOSOPHY OF LEARNING:
Every child is capable of learning, although some may learn in different ways. Making learning fun and working hard to learn produces children who want to learn even more! And isn't that our life goal?! Let's make life-long lovers of learning together!

ABOUT ME:

When I'm not in the classroom, I love to spend time outside walking or working in my yard, reading, or spending time with friends. I also like to bake bread and make cookies.

Let me know if you have questions or need additional information! I hope to see your learner soon!
