Learners are assessed through group interaction.Class Experience
-Each day, we will practice introducing ourselves at the beginning of class. This will usually be with a song incorporated. -Next we will go over the calendar to discuss the day of the week and the month. If it is sunny, cloudy, windy, rainy, snowy, etc we will put a visual aid onto our calendar to identify the weather that day. - If someone has a birthday and they would like to tell us, then we will sing "Happy Birthday" to them that day. -Each day we will discuss manners and the importance of treating others with kindness. This helps to promote healthy social skills. -Next I will introduce the "letter of the week" We will do activities based around that letter. For example, if the letter is "A" then we will be discussing the "A" sound, how to write it, and the objects, animals, and places that start with that letter. -Next we will practice counting. Next we will go over the different shapes and discuss what objects they see that relate to that shape. -I ask that they each have something to write with each day so they are able to practice writing letters, numbers, and drawing. -We will be talking about animals and incorporate what letter they start with. I will be focusing on animals each day that start with the letter of the week. -We will read a story that incorporates the letter of the week. -Art is also an integral part of learning. So we will be looking at the pictures in the story to discuss what we see and talk about the different colors. -Every Friday will be our "Show and Tell" Day. This is where students are able to bring anything they want to share with the others. This can be a toy, a favorite pet, a drawing, etc. This will allow each child to shine in their own way and share what they want. If they don't want to participate in "Show and Tell" that's okay. This is optional. -At the end of class each day, we will sing a song that helps children end their class time in a happy and fun way. Circle Time is a fun way to learn about different skills and help students understand meanings of words, sounds, animals, shapes, songs, numbers, letters, days of the week, months, weather, and manners. --Each day after class, I will send an activity to parents to print out for their child. This includes but not limited to: coloring activities, writing practice, color, cut, and paste, or connect the dots activities. The repetitive identification of letters will help the students to remember the letter and how to write it.
