Class Experience

Homeschool students want to socialize just like everyone else but it hard when others don't understand what it's like to be homeschooled. This class brings homeschoolers together to socialize, learn social skills and make friends with others who understand their world. Students will discuss games that they love like Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite, Mario, Pokemon and more. Students will bond over their similar like interests while learning to respect and appreciate interests that may be different from theirs. We'll discuss gaming, trivia and facts while practicing social skills, critical thinking, and speech in this social club.

My goal is to create a safe, comfortable, social learning environment where homeschoolers can socialize and build friendships why they discuss interesting topics and connect with each other.

This is a discussion-based class that helps students build speaking and listening skills. Students may compare and contrast games and consoles, talk about gaming strategy, and discuss the current happenings in the video game world. Students will build communication skills while having fun and making friends! Class topics will be largely student-led.

Here are some examples of discussion topics:
Which video game is your favorite?
If you could only play one game for the next 50 years what would it be and why?
If you could create your own video game, what would it be like?
Which is better, Multiplayer or solo play?

Shy students are welcome!

Hello and welcome to my profile !
My name is Kathleen and I am an award winning, certified teacher with multiples degrees under my belt: I have my BA degree in Psychology with an emphasis on childhood development. I then went on to receive a dual Master's degree in both Early childhood special education AND General education from a prestigious university in New York City. I've spent over 5 years in the classroom, working with families and teaching a diverse population of students from all ages and abilities.

As a young teacher in my 20s I find that I am better equipped to engage with my young students on their interest and maintain the proper energy level needed, to keep them engaged and learning. Children will relate to me more than they would a veteran, thus, allowing for increased engagement and academic success.

My area of expertise includes a specialized approach to: Autism, ADHD, ODD and Dyslexia. I pride myself on my ability to engage and include every student in a fun way that is based on their unique interest. Students will learn best when they enjoy the subject and when then heard and valued, so that is first and foremost my top priority, to educate each one of my students while also building them up so they can grow into and educated, healthy adult.

My approach to learning has always been a humanistic one. I teach the child in ways that will aid in all areas of their life, including their social and emotional well being and cognitive ability. I build off my students interests and connect those interests to research based learning standards.
