Hi Outschool. This class is a 20 week class where students get to create, manage, and operate their own NFL fantasy football team. We will have a live draft where students select their team, and then meet weekly to discuss the upcoming fantasy week, waiver wire pickups, who to add and drop, should you trade a player, player injuries, and NFL related topics. Because the NFL is always changing, students will learn how to adapt to those changes each week. Even though the class will meet once each week, the students will be able to engage with the other students 7 days a week through the sleeper app. This class is more like a club because students will get to participate with the same group of friends for an entire NFL season. The season will run for 17 weeks, but the class will run for 20 weeks in total. This class is designed for students to learn to play the game by participating in a real season long fantasy football league. This is a private fantasy league that will be only for the Outschool participants that sign up. No outsiders will be able to join. I will be the commissioner of the league to monitor student actions, but the students will only compete against the other students. This class will be all discussion and open participation. Students will learn by doing (Drafting, Trading, Adding and Dropping Players, Building a Winning Team, etc). One of the major components of this class will be problem solving because unexpected variables can impact your team. As the NFL season progresses each week brings new challenges. This is a great opportunity to make friends in a safe privately controlled environment. Learners will build social skills, problem solving skills, learn to adapt to changes, learn a new game, and most importantly have fun. It is best for the students to have some background knowledge about fantasy football before taking this class. I offer a prerequisite class that teaches the fundamentals of fantasy football. Students do not have to take the prerequisite class in order to take this one. They are welcome to still join this class and learn as they go. Fantasy football may be a game, but it is a game that can be played and enjoyed into adulthood. Learning the game can also lead to jobs in the communication field. Fantasy football is a billion dollar business according to Fox Business. There are jobs in marketing, broadcasting, media, and more. Not only is the game fun, but it could lead to a career doing something you love and enjoy. At the end of the season, the league winner will receive a trophy. Parental Guidance
Parents, your learners will need to download an app called "sleeper", or access the website at www.sleeper.app. It is a fantasy football app that we will use in order to host a private fantasy football league with their outschool peers. They do have public leagues on the app that anyone can join, so just be aware that it is a publicly used app. I encourage parents to monitor their learners use of any public app. Our class sessions will only be hosted privately with the other learners.
