In this 8 lesson course we will learn about the Principles of Art! I will be demonstrating the projects and techniques in a series of step-by-step videos & slideshows. Students will explore a variety of media. Lesson 1: Balance- In this assignment we will paint a symmetrical butterfly! Students will use a paint & print process this week to create their monarch butterfly! Lesson 2: Unity- This lesson we will look at the art of Wassily Kandinsky. In his work he unifies color & shape. Students will create a Kandinsky inspired crayon and watercolor resist piece. Lesson 3: Variety- Students will create a variety name drawing! Students will draw a variety of patterns, lines & shapes in the back ground. Lesson 4: Proportion- Students will create a landscape drawing. Students will focus on the proportion of objects such as trees to express distance. Lesson 5: Emphasis- Students will create an animal drawing with color emphasis on a chosen area! Lesson 6: Pattern- Students will create a cactus or flower drawing with colorful patterns on the pot. Lesson 7: Movement: Students will look at the art of Keith Haring and create a drawing focused on movement! Lesson 8: Principles of Art Challenge! Create a piece of art work demonstrating at least 3 of the 7 Principles of Art we learned about in class!

I have taught high school art for 18 years! Last year I had the opportunity to teach middle school students remotely and loved it! I have taught a variety of courses over my career such as: Fine Arts 1 & 2, Introduction to Photography, Pottery 1 & 2, Introduction to Jewelry, Introduction to Crafts, Introduction to Sculpture, Design 1 & 2.
I believe creating art is a process. It takes making a mess, mistakes and trying again! Creating art is a method of communication with the world!
When I'm not creating art, I love cooking, reading, spending time with friends & family!
