Class Experience

This ongoing homeschool art class is perfect for families who desire their children to have fun, dedicated art time without worrying about teaching the class themselves. Each week we will create a different project. In addition, students are encouraged to inject their creativity.

Each month we will create THREE art projects. The projects are created in the order listed. If there is a change to the schedule, I will announce it in the classroom. If I cancel due to illness, I will refund you versus adding another meeting time.

Check out the full schedule by clicking on "show schedule" above for each class section. Check back for open spots if there is no option to enroll.

Homeschool Art meets from SEPTEMBER through MAY.
We have at least one week off each month. *Enrolled learners will remain enrolled during the breaks without being charged unless unsubscribed.

Art projects are listed in the classroom and updated each month. Some projects we've created are a watercolor lighthouse, an acrylic landscape, and birds using markers. We primarily use watercolor, acrylic, markers, and colored pencils for our projects.

UPCOMING PROJECTS:

August 31: Romero Britto Inspired Flowers
Supplies: Mixed Media (heavy-weighted) paper, markers (you will want markers with plenty of ink), a ruler, and a pencil

Parental Guidance
Young learners may need additional help. I try to move at a good pace, but the class can feel fast for some younger students. Students can always speak up by unmuting or using chat if they need me to slow down or if they have questions.
Supply List
Students who are planning to take several classes should have the following supplies : -Heavy Mixed Media Art Paper - a spiral pad works great for keeping all projects completed on paper together -9 x 12 or 8 x 10 Canvas - each month, I encourage learners to use canvas for one of the acrylic projects -Acrylic paints in primary, secondary, and favorite colors -a paper plate or palette can be used to store the paint -Watercolor paint, such as pans, liquids, and pencils. I demonstrate with liquids and pan paint. -Colored pencils -Markers -Crayons -Paintbrushes in various sizes, including round 6 and 8, a 3/4 inch flat, and a thin brush for fine details We use a variety of paintbrushes, I recommend purchasing a set of flat and round brushes of various sizes like these: http://www.michaels.com/white-taklon-super-value-paintbrush-pack-by-craft-smart/10514935.html and http://www.michaels.com/brown-taklon-tempera-filbert-paintbrushes-by-craft-smart/10514943.html. -Pencils for sketching Feel free to use art supplies that you have on hand.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Homeschool Art was the first class I offered on Outschool. I taught my first class in February 2016. Over the years, I have several returning learners, which means I try to make sure our projects are fresh. This also keeps me from becoming too comfortable in my lessons.

My teaching career did not start online. I have taught art to children in every community I have lived in as an adult. I enjoy creating art independently, and I know that having an art teacher who encourages is an important factor when trying your hand at new techniques. I encourage my students to do their best AND to include their flair in their projects.
