Class Experience

[Note: I do not accept learners outside the listed age range. ] Your student will learn and practice what to say when something seems unfair, when something has been taken or broken that he values, or when someone is being mean, etc. This course is geared towards helping children who are actively experiencing conflict.

By the end of this introductory course, students will have the tools they need to create win:win solutions for most face to face situations encountered at this age. They will work on finding solutions to problems by sharing their feelings and listening to how the other person feels. They will become adept at thinking of non-destructive ways to solve everyday problems.

During the class, we will use mostly scenario-based discussions and slides to practice resolving conflicts in different situations. There is an emphasis placed on discussion. Students will be assisted as needed to help them become comfortable finding a resolution to their problem. Note: [This class requires a significant amount of verbal interaction between your child and the teacher.]

The materials section below will describe what is needed for this class. Parents are welcome to sit in on the class.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Parents, would you be able to ensure your child's microphone is set up appropriately? It is extremely frustrating for the kids when I have to repeatedly ask them to speak louder. Thanks, in advance, for your help! NOTES: 1) Parents always ask if my conversation classes are appropriate for their children. My answer is that your child should have an opportunity to practice his or her social skills and this is a safe place to do that. Their social skills will not improve if they are not given opportunities to use them. 2) This class WILL take place if there is only one learner. 3) Refunds or transfers will not be given after the start of class. If you know in advance that you will need to miss the class, please contact me to arrange a transfer or refund.
Supply List
Students will need access to a microphone (built-in computer mic is fine) to allow for practicing during class. A worksheet will be provided for students to practice conversations at home.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
