One-on-one individual reading sessions for homeschool, after school, enrichment, or extra help for native speakers and English learners. Your child will build confidence and discover that reading is a joy, with phonics, sight words, vocabulary, and grammar folded naturally into our warm and conversational ongoing meetings. Homework
1 hour per week. At caregiver request I will provide homework and practical advice to keep the learning going between tutoring sessions.Assessment
I will provide a grade for students whose parents/caregivers want them to receive a letter grade. For those who don't want formal grades or tests, I am always happy to provide observations and feedback at parent or caregiver request.Grading

In this ongoing individual tutoring meeting, I help learners find joy in reading. My teaching style is warm and conversational, and I aim to connect with each learner about the things that are important to them so that tutoring sessions are fun and interesting in addition to being a time to learn and grow in reading skill. Your student will get explicit instruction in phonics, decoding, and sight words. They will also learn sentence structure, grammar, and vocabulary via conversation and practice. We will read books based on reading level and the child's interests, together on my shared screen. I will note the areas that your child is having challenges and incorporate those topics into future lessons. I will also communicate with you regularly to give my feedback and ask where you would like to have the focus of your child's sessions with me.

TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certified. I’m a public charter teacher and homeschool educator in my third decade of sharing my love of learning with kids Preschool through 8th Grade. I have been teaching small groups online and out in the world since long before I began homeschooling my oldest child in 2012.
As it has for everyone, the Covid era has made even more clear to me just how important positive connection is for kids and teens. I'm grateful to Outschool for being an avenue for making friends and developing positive relationships in the lives of our young people.
In my off time you are likely to find me working on my tiny urban permaculture homestead, practicing Latin, volunteering, camping, and hiking. I love exploring Northern California nature and culture with my family, including our sparky chihuahua/terrier, Earth.
