Welcome to the exciting world of essay writing! This interactive and engaging course is specifically designed for kids, aiming to develop their essay-writing skills and nurture their creativity and self-expression. Through a series of fun and interactive activities, students will learn the essential components of an essay and develop strategies to express their ideas coherently and confidently.

This is a 4 day course with live meetings on Outschool.

In this course, children will embark on a thrilling journey that covers the fundamentals of essay writing, from understanding the purpose of essays to mastering the art of crafting persuasive arguments. The course curriculum is thoughtfully designed to cater to the unique needs and abilities of kids, ensuring an enjoyable and supportive learning experience.

The course begins with a lively introduction to the concept of essays. Children will learn that essays are a way to share their thoughts, ideas, and experiences with others. They will explore different types of essays, such as descriptive, narrative, and persuasive, and discover the characteristics and techniques associated with each type. Through engaging discussions and interactive exercises, children will develop a clear understanding of the specific requirements and approaches for different essay styles.

Next, the course delves into the writing process itself. Kids will learn how to brainstorm ideas by tapping into their imagination and personal experiences. They will discover various techniques, such as mind mapping, drawing, and storytelling, to generate unique and engaging ideas for their essays. Emphasis will be placed on organizing their thoughts using graphic organizers or outlines, helping them structure their essays effectively.

Throughout the course, children will explore the power of language and storytelling. Class breakdown:
Day 1:
Introduction to Essays and Different Types 

Start with an icebreaker activity to get the kids excited about writing.
Introduce the concept of essays and discuss their purpose.
Explore different types of essays (descriptive, narrative, persuasive) and their characteristics.
Engage students in a group discussion about their favorite type of essay and why.
Provide examples of each essay type and analyze their structure and techniques.
Assign a short writing exercise where kids choose one essay type and write a paragraph.

Brainstorming and Outlining 

Teach kids the importance of brainstorming to generate ideas for their essays.
Demonstrate different brainstorming techniques like mind mapping, drawing, or storytelling.
Guide them through a brainstorming activity related to a specific essay topic.
Introduce the concept of outlining and explain how it helps organize ideas.
Show kids how to create an outline for their essays with a focus on the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.
Provide a practice exercise where they create an outline for their chosen essay type.

Day 2: 
Crafting Engaging Introductions and Conclusions
Discuss the purpose of introductions and conclusions in an essay.
Analyze various techniques for writing attention-grabbing introductions.
Teach kids how to write clear and concise thesis statements.
Explore strategies for writing impactful conclusions that leave a lasting impression.
Engage students in a writing activity where they revise their existing introductions and write compelling conclusions.

Day 3
Developing Strong Arguments and Supporting Evidence 

Explain the importance of persuasive arguments in essays.
Teach kids how to develop strong arguments using reasons and examples.
Introduce the concept of supporting evidence and credible sources.
Guide students in finding evidence to support their arguments.
Teach them how to integrate evidence effectively into their essays.
Provide practice activities where kids develop arguments and support them with evidence.

Day 4
Revising, Editing, and Peer Review 

Discuss the importance of revising and editing in improving essay quality.
Teach kids how to revise their essays for clarity, coherence, and organization.
Introduce basic editing skills, such as proofreading for grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Explain the concept of peer review and how to provide constructive feedback.
Engage students in a peer review activity where they exchange essays and offer feedback.
Wrap up the week by celebrating their progress and achievements.

Put everything we've learned together
Learners will be given a topic to brainstorm and write a well-written essay.

Learners will need:
Paper and pencil or something to write with

Learners will be encouraged to complete activities and essays and submit them to the instructor for notes.
