In this 3 week class learners will read the assigned pages each week and then be prepared to discuss the book at each meeting. Each class will involve a discussion where all learners are valued. Each week learners will write or draw about the book. (This is not an art class. Drawing helps deepen comprehension. Stick figures are fine.) Before first meeting, learners will read chapters 1 (Snow) - 26 (Not Knowing) pages 1-84. Week 1: Discuss the chapters and begin forming a theme for the book Homework: Read chapters 27 (Home) - 48 (Going Up) pages 85-166 Week 2: Discuss the chapters continue working on theme. Learners will write/draw about the important parts of the book. Homework Read chapters 49 (Hearts) - 69 (Homecoming) pages 167 - 249 Week 3: Discuss the chapters. Quick digital breakout/escape room

Parental Guidance
The main character thinks back to the war (use of guns) in his home country and the death of his father and brother. His cousin also lost his arm in the war. No graphic details are given.

Home of the Brave book. This can be the actual book, eBook, or audiobook. Learners will write or draw each week so learners will need pencil/paper or a tablet.
