Students will learn how to choose, grow, and plant their favorite herbs, flowers and vegetables. They will learn how to grow them and what to do when seedlings outgrow their containers. New vocabulary words will be introduced such as germination, transplanting and fertilizer. By the end of the class, learners can successfully plant a full garden with some support from family members.

Activities will be assigned following each class. Activities are in the form of crossword puzzles, watching videos, coloring printables, creating virtual gardens and hands-on gardening. Learners will be able to preview the work of their peers, using the Outschool classroom and communicate virtually as well. Homework will take 15 minutes - 1 hour to complete. Fifteen-minute time frames are for activity sheets. Thirty-minute time frames are for hands-on gardening activities. One hour time frames are for tours of garden centers. Following our virtual field trips, your child will share their experiences visiting their local garden center, by uploading photos or videos to the Outschool classroom.

YouTube will be used as a resource for this class. It will be used as a screen share video to show children various vegetable growth time-lapse videos, to help them see what a full-grown plant will look like. We will also use YouTube to go on virtual garden tours or visits to the local garden centers. Parents and students do not need to have an account with YouTube to participate in the class and/or access these videos.
