Students will be taught a few basic steps to gardening at home. They will learn how to choose the following: tools for gardening, location for garden, container (paper towel roll, milk carton, etc.), seeds or plants. The students will also learn basic maintenance techniques, such as happy watering, soil monitoring, and choosing just the right amount of sunlight to keep their garden growing healthy and strong. Students will learn: How to choose the right garden tools for their home garden How to choose the right location How to choose the right plants (for their container choice) How to maintain their garden, through proper watering, happy soil levels and great sunlight Songs to remind them of different steps to garden.
Students will need the following materials: paper towel tubes milk carton(s) 2L bottles scissors (preferably an adult with a box cutter) flowers, fruit, vegetables or herbs to plant watering can or cup filled with water dry towel seed starting mix (any brand is fine - if using seeds) small bag of garden soil (any brand is fine - if using plant starts) popsicle stick or tongue depressor permanent marker
