In this holiday drawing class, we will create a vibrant winter wreath full of holly leaves and berries. We will use modern calligraphy to hand-letter our holiday greeting, "Merry Christmas."
Class experience
In this holiday drawing class, we will create a beautiful Christmas wreath with a variety of leaves and red berries. We will learn about the popular hand-lettering style of modern calligraphy, and use this to draw "Merry Christmas" in the center of our wreath. Adding shadows and various shades of green and red will finish our piece off with vibrancy and color. Students will work on following creative direction, realistic and creative drawing, balance of composition, and some color theory.
I am a former Art Teacher and had the privilege of teaching Art for 2 years to K-8th grade students using various mediums and forms. A lot of my class instruction was teaching the art of drawing. Weekly, we drew various compositions ranging from seasonal landscapes, wild animals, nature, and portraits. Students enjoyed learning skills to create realistic drawings while adding as much flare and creative variation as they liked. Watching students enjoy making art and grow in their own confidence was truly a priceless gift. In addition to teaching art, I am an artist and have an art studio in my home. I've used my love for hand-lettering and design to start a business in 2015 selling products with my work. It's been so fun!
One piece of white printer paper or card stock, a good pencil with an eraser, a fine tip black marker for defining and outlining, coloring tools with various preferred colors (markers, crayons, colored pencils, pastels, etc.), and a positive attitude.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
