In this 3-week online course, students will gain the confidence necessary to have a simple conversation with a native or fluent Spanish speaker by engaging with the teacher and other students through song and guided practice.
Class experience
Students will learn some simple songs and phrases in Spanish through video chat in a small group of students. Each class will begin with the teacher singing a song that teaches essential vocabulary (such as greetings, colors, numbers, family members, etc.). The teacher will then share some words and phrases that will help the students learn the song. The students will have the opportunity to practice the vocabulary and pronunciation in class. In this 3-week course, students will learn songs, words, and phrases that will help them talk about everyday things, as well as to have a simple conversation with a native Spanish speaker. The vocabulary includes the following: greetings, introductions, colors, numbers, alphabet, manners, and other essential Spanish phrases for the beginning Spanish speaker.
I spent 18 months in Costa Rica teaching and speaking in Spanish. I have a degree in elementary education, with an endorsement in Dual Language Immersion (Spanish/English). I have been teaching languages online for over 3 years. I am currently homeschooling my own children in both Spanish and English.
Homework Offered
Homework will be optional but is highly recommended because it will help the students practice what they are learning in class. Students will be asked to create a video to upload and send to the teacher and/or put online (if the parent wishes to showcase what their student is learning with friends and family). If uploading a video is not possible or desired, the student will be encouraged to sing the song or practice the phrases with family and/or friends. No reading or writing will be required, as this class is focused primarily on speaking and listening.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
The learner will be assessed in class as they practice speaking with the teacher and other students. They may also be assessed through the homework assignments if they choose to do the assignments.Grades Offered
I will supply the words to each song after each class to help the students remember the song/vocabulary and to practice at home, if desired.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
