Thank you. :) The Japanese language has become extremely popular due to anime, J-pop and J-dramas! This easy-going on-going camp is aimed at students who are interested in starting their Japanese language journey. Discover Japan through its language! In this on-going course, students will be introduced to Japanese writing systems. Each day, students will have a Japanese writing activity or play a game to decipher a series of Japanese vocabulary words. Students will be surprised by the Japanese they already know and how fun it is to learn Japanese! Students are expected to verbally participate in the class activities and games. Cameras and Microphones are requested to be ON. [Repeat student may turn cameras OFF, but may be requested to answer questions and show written work.] In this class, all Japanese is accompanied with Rōmaji (Roman alphabet) for easy reading and following along. No prior Japanese language learning is required - Easy Japanese-y! TOPICS: Jan 29 Week 1: Writing Japanese Katakana Vowels Activity + Students will practice writing vowels for one of the Japanese writing systems (Katakana). Feb 05 Week 2: Writing Japanese Katakana Consonants Activity + Students will practice writing consonants for one of the Japanese writing systems (Katakana) and Katakana words. Feb 12 Week 3: Writing Names in Katakana Activity + Students will learn how to write and practice writing their names in Japanese (Katakana). Feb 19 Week 4: Katakana Vocabulary Game + Students will play a game to decipher a series of Japanese Katakana words. Feb 26 Week 5: Animals Vocabulary Game + Students will learn the names of Animals in Japanese and decipher the Animals in Japanese Katakana game-style. Mar 04 Week 6: Fruit Vocabulary Game + Students will learn vocabulary for Fruit in Japanese and decipher the Fruit in Japanese Katakana game-style. Mar 11 Week 7: Countries Vocabulary Game + Students will learn vocabulary for 12 Countries in Japanese and decipher the countries in Japanese Katakana game-style. Mar 18 Week 8: Clothing Vocabulary Game + Students will learn vocabulary for Clothing in Japanese and decipher the clothing in Japanese Katakana game-style. Mar 25 Week 9: Reading Japanese in Anime and Activity + Students will be introduced to all 3 Japanese writing systems. Students will read the Japanese description of characters. Teacher Lynn (リン 先生) completed her Master’s degree in Oita, Japan. She was a teaching assistant for Japanese middle school, high school, and university in-person classes in Japan. She has been living in Japan for 6 years (since 2017). Teacher Lynn not only intensely studied the Japanese language, but fell in love with Japanese culture and discovered the passion for sharing such a beautiful language with students. She has been a private Japanese online tutor for over 3 years.
