US Grade 6 - 9
One of the most fun parts of studying history is the unknown element. Amazing things were created that defy our assumptions of what was possible in early history. In this class, each week will study the facts and mystery surrounding one of four major mysteries of the ancient world. Week 1 we will look into the creation of Stonehenge and the mystery behind its purpose. Week 2 we will investigate the mystery surrounding the Easter Island "moai" statues left by the Rapa Nui people. Week 3 we will try to uncover the hidden purposes and the unbelievable creation of the Nazca Line in Peru. And, finally, during week 4, we will try to crack the mystery of the puzzling Roman dodecahedrons. That's not the end of it though. It's a History's Mysteries course. We must have some awesome creations based on these mysteries to help lock in the knowledge. For Stonehenge, we will create our own small scale models. Also, included is something hinting at the purpose. Next, will make our own "moai" statues similar to those on the Easter Islands. For the Nazca lines, we will make our own versions of these lines with different primitive figures. Finally, we will make, you guessed it, dodecahedrons. It will be quite a challenge creating a 3-D, 12-sided shape! Check out "History's Mysteries: US History" if you like the looks of this class. It takes a look at several mysteries in the United States.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Florida Teaching Certificate in Social Studies/History
I have always been very curious and creative and I love to inspire it in kids (both my own and others) as well. I like to teach through projects, which give students a choice on the way they learn and show their understanding. I also love to teach through games and like to combine game elements in my classes.
I believe history, studied in context, to be extremely important. In fact, it's one of our best teachers. The other "subject" I believe to be of high importance is Logic. Unfortunately, logic has long been left off most curriculums. Knowing how to examine events and history through logical thinking and analysis gives us a deep, true understanding of our world.
I'm a big believer in every parent having all the need to school their children all the way through high school. So, if you are ever in doubt, let me encourage you.
My educational consulting company, It's A Potsick Education, exists to build up curious, creative learners. I do custom content/lesson design, private, online events, consulting, and more. Message me for anything you need.
I was a classroom teacher in the public schools for over 15 years and, for the past 14 years, have been helping my wife homeschool as well. I currently hold state certifications in Florida (certificate # 960883) in the areas of Middle Grades Social Science and Language Arts and Elementary Education. I have extensive classroom experience with all Elementary and Middle Grades subject content and have done private tutoring for many years in Math, Civics, Science, and Language Arts.
