During this 5-week flexible class, students will read the book, "Where is Area 51?" by Paula K. Manzanero. Each week will have an assigned reading, a deeper dive into supporting documents, a quiz, and a project. Students will interact through questions in the classroom, and this is where they will post their weekly projects. In the final week of class, students will have a virtual escape room to solve! This is an exciting topic with lots of mystery and conspiracy theories. Week 1: Read...
Students will read and be able to answer comprehension questions from the book, "Where is Area 51?" by Paula K. Manzanero. Students will: -use videos and web-articles to look into more detail about each week's topics. -create projects that coordinate with each week's readings. -answer quiz questions to check for reading comprehension. -solve puzzles and codes to finish the final escape room.
This topic can be a mind field of crazy conspiracy information. All my recommended articles are suitable for this age group. No gory details or extreme theories.
Each week students will be assigned chapters to read, news videos or articles, quizzes, and projects.

Quizzes are graded by using a google form in an escape room format.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
The web articles do have advertisements on the pages. I recommend using a website like outline.com/XTHst to enter the URL of the article. This will create a clean copy of the article without ads and distractions. All information will be provided by a direct link on their classroom page.
