Description
Class Experience
The student will be assigned to watch an episode or episodes of Doctor Who based on the historical person or piece of literature of the week. On Mondays at 9 am EST I will send out the information which will go over the person or book covered in the episode in detail through a slideshow/video PowerPoint presentation. There will be worksheets and quizzes given each week. They will also respond about what in the episode was based on facts and what was changed and/or added for the "Doctor Who"...
The students will learn about the historical facts that each of these time period episodes are based on.
I have a degree in History as well as received my teaching license in Massachusetts. I use my love of History and facts to help children understand that history is conceived of real people who did real things. I found Social Studies class boring as a child because the teachers concentrated mostly on dates and statistics rather than the humans behind the events. I love using pop culture to help kids understand that people in history were real people
Students will have to watch the assigned episodes before hand, as well as write responses, and worksheets about the episode, and teachings.
There will be 10 topics covered during this time course each covering a different episode and different time period. There will be a worksheet handed out for each as well as a small quiz on each topic. The student will need access to the Doctor Who episodes on their own. Amazon Prime, DVDs, BritBox, and others offer this.
The learner will be graded on their written responses to each class and topic as well as worksheets and quizzes. They will be assessed based on their general understanding of the topic as well as any opinions or observations made about the difference between how the topic is generally discussed or presented (as in on the show itself) compared to the real-life person or event. I will not be grading on how well the response is written as this is a history class not an English class, and I understand many learners may not have English as a first language.
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class is based on the Doctor Who television program so there will be some mild violence. Please see https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/?ref_=ttep_ep_tt for description.
All episodes can be found on BBC America, Prime Video, HBO Max or Brit Box. The classroom lecture will be sent over as a Power Point Presentation. Worksheets shall be emailed over as well.
