US Grade 4 - 7
Did you know that todays video games got their start in the research labs of scientists back in the 1950's? It's true! In this class, we will explore the incredible journey and growth in technology through games such as OXO in 1952, Tennis for Two in 1958, and Spacewar in 1962. We'll meet the Father of Video Games, Ralph Baer, and take a look at how his creation, The Brown Box, started the video game home console. We'll walk through the 1980's and examine the arcade craze, learn why parents were afraid it would make kids less socially active, and how the rise of Nintendo and Sega changed all that. We'll end our journey looking at the most popular systems today and discuss what it is about gaming that we personally enjoy as well as sharing some of our favorite games.
Learning Goals
Learners will explore the 70 year history of history game, some of the incredible people who made it all possible, and how technology has changed how we look at gaming.
