It's one of the most famous and prestigious prizes in the world. From Marie Curie, Theodore Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, the Dali Lama, Nelson Mandela, and Malala Yousafzai, the list of winners is a look at some of the greatest minds and doers in modern world history. The first Nobel Prizes were awarded in Stockholm, Sweded in 1901, 5 years after the death of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of dynamite and other explosives. In this class, we will take a look at Nobel's life and what inspired him to create the prizes. We will take a look at its evolution over the last 120 years, discuss the few times they were not awarded, the inclusion of Economics in 1969, and many of its famous recipients.
