As a NYS certified teacher of English, I have expertise in the linguistic changes that accompanied the Anglo-Saxon period (Old English), the Norman invasion (Middle English), and the English Renaissance (Early Modern English). Moreover, to understand the cultural and literary history of England, one must have a working knowledge of its political history: the Elizabethan, Jacobean, Victorian, Edwardian, etc., eras have their own distinctive linguistic and literary features. 50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
