US Grade 3 - 6
Students will learn about the historical facts leading to the development of the African American Barbie doll. Students will also learn how to compare and contrast, sequence, and determine the cause and effect of the information they learn in the class. The lesson will begin with students who want to share their barbie dolls if desired and share information about the doll. Then the teacher will teach the class using slides and videos. My teaching style is to combine reading comprehension skills with topics that interest the students. I also use technology and other resources that support different types of learners. There will be an equal balance of teacher lecture, class discussion, and games to teach and engage the students. This is a reading comprehension class therefore students do not need to own a barbie doll or have any particular experience or knowledge. All students are welcome.
Learning Goals
The students will learn the history behind the African American Barbie Doll. They will also learn reading comprehension skills such as compare-contrast, the sequence of events, and cause and effect.
