Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework will be assigned weekly to help learners apply the concepts through various exercises. Additionally, there will be recording assignments to further enhance their practice and understanding.
Certificate of Completion
Families may request a certificate of completion once the course has been successfully finished. This certificate serves as a formal acknowledgment of the learner’s participation and achievement, providing a tangible record of the skills and knowledge gained throughout the course.

Class Experience

This course will consist of video lectures provided via PowerPoint. Video lectures will last between 45-60 minutes depending on the topic discussed and the number of listening examples used. The instructor will provide the reading along with a listening list for each section that corresponds to each of the following themes. The course is formatted to have reading, writing, and listening assignments that will be prepared by the instructor each week. The following is the course syllabus. No required experience or knowledge necessary prior to the course.
Homework will consist of weekly listening assignments and listening journals.

Each lesson is a combination of lecture, listening, and discussion about the material covered in the lesson.

Lesson 1:
Musical Elements and Instruments
 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: The Instructor will post a question to the classroom that students will respond to and interact with one another. Students will also post a recording of their favorite instrument used and their role in jazz. 
Lesson 2:
Jazz Form and Improvisation
 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝟏: Write a short summary and present it to the class about the musical works selected by the instructor. Students will be expected to comment on each other's videos and provide positive & constructive acknowledgments of their classmates' work. 
Lesson 3:
The Roots of Jazz
 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: The Instructor will post a question to the classroom that students will respond to and interact with one another. 
Lesson 4:
New Orleans
 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝟐: Why was New Orleans important to the development of early jazz? Students will be expected to comment on each other's videos and provide positive & constructive acknowledgments of their classmates' work.
