In this eight week course, students will learn about how interior design changed from ancient times until the early 1800s. The reasons for these changes will be discussed and students will get to design and redesign historical interiors.

In this course, students will learn about how humans transformed the interiors of their homes based on the times. We will cover interior design from Ancient times to the modern period. The class will be structured into 8 weekly live meetings where I will use visuals and projects to facilitate student learning. I have a very casual teaching style and I love to interact with students.

Introduction Course Materials The Ancient World

 Where did ancient people live and how were they influenced by the environment? How do we know what interiors and exteriors of homes of the past looked like?

 How did class distinction influence the interior design of Ancient Egyptians? How did religion influence the interiors of holy places?

Ancient Crete and Greece Ancient Rome

 What did the interiors of Ancient Crete and Ancient Greece look like and  what influenced the interior design styles?

The Middle Ages

 How did the people of the early, middle, and late Middle Ages decorate their homes and how were these decorations affected by political turmoil during the times?

I have a bachelor's degree in Clothing and Textiles and worked as a costume designer in professional theater for 15 years before teaching. I have a PhD in Consumer, Apparel, Retail Studies and teach design in high school full time!
