In this one-time class, students will learn about the history of astrology. We will discuss how it was originally used in Ancient societies, such as Egyptian and Greek, and how it evolved to become the popular horoscopes we know today.
Class experience
What do the Ancient Greek, Egyptian, and Babylonian societies have in common? They all used astrology! In this class, we will be going over the origins of astrology and horoscopes, and the historical reasons and uses for them. This will be a primarily lecture-based class via PowerPoint, and students will be encouraged to participate in discussion elements at times. Students will learn about the history of astrology, and how it was a critical part of Ancient societies. Students will also learn how it evolved over time, leading to not only horoscopes, but also progress in other scientific fields.
I have an IDS BA in Modern Languages and Communication, Digital Media, and Communication. As a part of my college studies, I have taken courses in history. I have tutored students in history, as well as other subjects.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Horoscopes are classified as pseudoscience, and will be approached as such in this class. This class will discuss superstitions and Halloween traditions related to astrology (from a secular point of view). Death will be mentioned in terms of major events that astrology allegedly predicted. We will also be discussing fraud in terms of the invention of the Irish Zodiac.
