Class Experience

In this class, we will discuss the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, Halloween coming to America, costumes, the tradition of trick-or-treating, and the fears of poisoned candy. We will also talk about Halloween being so violent that cities considered banning the holiday, superstitions, the history of witches, love matchmaking, and how Halloween is celebrated around the world.

Describe the origins of trick-or-treating and the different versions 
Compare and contrast costumes from history and today 
Describe the fear around poisoned candy and how it’s safer today

Describe the negative connotations of witches in history and how it’s changed today 
Describe rituals performed in hopes of matchmaking on Halloween  
Describe how Halloween is celebrated around the world
