Class Experience

Students will have a strong grasp on the beginnings of English and the very earliest ancestors we are aware of.. They will also learn how to research, write, and produce a short 5-10 minute podcast.
I have an M.Ed in TESOL (English teaching). I have also studied history for most of my life including about 50 hours worth of this History of English Podcast up through Middle English. I also run a podcast on my own so I'm familiar with teaching students how to organize and prepare a podcast.
Students will listen/watch to podcasts and videos about the history of English and take notes to be ready to answer the assigned questions in class. There will be around 1.5-2 hours of homework a week on this. They will also work on their podcasts when we get to that point (this will mean we do a little less podcast/video on those weeks.

HOMEWORK IS REQUIRED, if students miss more than one week's assignment I will talk to the parents to try to make a plan for improving. If a second week is missed (or either podcast is not completed at the appropriate times) I will need to withdraw the student with no refund. I do not like giving credit for classes that students are not learning from and that's why I have this policy.
Students will need 1. Something to take notes with that will stay with them for at least the 12-weeks of this class without losing it. 2. Something to record themselves with. Any computer can do this with free recording programs.
Students are required to do their homework weekly and the 2 projects will help us see what we've learned. Letter grades are available upon request BUT you MUST notify me before the class is finished with week 1 so I will know to keep track of things in that way for your student.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
The History of English Podcast which has a list of sources about 30 books long. If you want to check it the link is in the links down below. I will also use various youtube videos to reinforce certain topics.
