Class experience
US Grade 6 - 8
This camp about the Presidents of the United States will encompass all 46 members of this exclusive club, grouped by the era in which they served. For this camp only the term(s) as President will be covered, as well as contributions to other administrations before and after their term(s). Students will explore the accomplishments, challenges and failures of each President, and examine how all 46 Presidents contribute to the narrative of US history.
I am a licensed middle school Social Studies teacher who knows how to present the bad and ugly using age appropriate language and information. I have been teaching this content for more than 20 years, and have a successful ongoing class which covers some of the same content in a President per week format.
Students may find paper and writing instruments helpful, but they are not required.
Some of the US Presidents were assassinated, had attempted assassinations, were involved in activities that were investigated and/or considered illegal, or involved in inappropriate relationships that are integral to the lens through which we view their term(s) in office. Learners should be mature enough to absorb the "bad and ugly" about the Presidents presented in an age appropriate manner.
We will refer to the US Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, resources at the Smithsonian Institute and National Archives, PBS Kids, resource publications and additional learning tools as deemed necessary.
