Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Each week learners will compete against each other answering questions about the American Civil War, and whoever answers the most questions correctly wins!

No prior knowledge of the American Civil War is required. To make things fair learners will receive a document that contains all the answers prior to class. They should study it before coming to class, and it is requested that they not use it during class, but try to answer the questions on their own from memory. At the end of each class learners will receive the document for the next week's class. It will always be posted in the classroom as well. Learners should come to class with 1 to 3 facts about the American Civil War not included in the documents for extra points.

Week 1: Fort Sumter to Gettysburg
Week 2: Vicksburg to Appomattox and Beyond
Week 3: Various Civil War Facts

Sections will be closed approximately 6 to 12 hours before the first class regardless of enrollment to ensure all learners have enough time to look over the materials.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a former Home School student who has never stopped learning! I love history and telling stories verbally and through writing, and I want to share that passion with others. I believe the statement is true: “Those who don’t learn from History are doomed to repeat it.” We need to learn from the past to shape our own futures and the world in general. I believe the best way to learn about history is to learn about the people who lived through it and what they experienced and tell their stories. I love telling stories through writing and enjoy public speaking, so storytelling is a natural combination of the two.

I have 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of places from teaching/coaching drama and dance for homeschoolers in a group setting, to homeschooling two young children for a few months, to teaching English as Second Language (ESL) to college students, to teaching Arts and Crafts at a Summer Camp. I am currently a ESL teacher online with VIPKid. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Communication from Stevenson University.

I love to travel both in the US and internationally. I’ve spent time in almost every state on the East Coast and driven through the rest. I’ve visited seven different countries and lived in Asia for 17 months.
