Class Experience

In this one-time fun and interactive class, students will learn all about Queen Elizabeth I. Students do not need to have any prior knowledge.

The class will run as follows:

2 minutes: Introductions.

5 minutes: We will look at a portrait of Elizabeth I. Students will be asked to think about what they can guess about her from the painting.

5 minutes: I will talk a little bit about Elizabeth’s father Henry VIII, and why he didn’t want her to be Queen!

5 minutes: We will become History Detectives! Using evidence on the screen (a potato, a Shakespeare play, a map of the world, a shoe) we will try to work out what type of leader Elizabeth was.

5 minutes: The Spanish Armada: using paintings from the time we will find out more about this 1588 battle.

5 minute: the potato queen! To celebrate the fact that potatoes first came to England when Elizabeth I was on the throne, students will use marker pens to decorate their potato to look like Queen Elizabeth I.

3: Sequence challenge! Working as a group, learners will be challenged to put six events in the correct order in which they happened. Can they beat the clock and stop the Queen being overthrown by her enemies!
