This ongoing club is for history lovers! We will learn about history, share our love of history, and get to know one another. I like to teach facts in history that most people don't know. For example, popsicles were actually invented by an 11 year old boy. After class your learner may be excited to impress you with historic facts that you have never heard! Each week we will meet for 30 minutes and learn about a different historical invention, place or person. We will open each club with get to know you questions that pertain to the lesson. The social aspect of this club has become very important. It has been exciting to see friendships made from across the world! Additionally, a learner may share something they have learned from history (*see below). Then learners will hear a story from history. I tell stories from history using storytelling along with photos and/or artwork. After hearing the story, we will have time for discussion and questions. *At the beginning of each meeting 1 learner will be allowed to share something they have learned from history. This is an optional activity. We will make a schedule, in class, for those who wish to share. Learners must let me know what they are going to teach us, either in class the week before or by sending me a message. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. The following is a schedule of topics we will cover over the next couple of months. This list will be updated as the club continues. I take suggestions from learners, so feel free to message me with a topic you are interested in! Week of: 4/11 - Ancient Greece 4/18 - Ancient Rome 4/25 - The Pony Express 5/2 - Hawaii 5/9 - Donuts 5/16 - Rosetta Stone 5/23 - Toys Part 2 MICROPHONES: I mute learners during class to cut down on background noise. Learners will be given opportunities to share what they know about the topics and discuss what we learn. I ask all students to raise their hands when they wish to speak. SINGLE LEARNERS: This is an ongoing class, so I prefer to have more than one student so they can interact with one another. If your learner is the only one enrolled I will message you about possibly changing to a different section.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about different events and people in history. Students will also be given the chance to teach history to others.
Other Details
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
I will use many different sources for news such as the Smithsonian, KidCitizen, the Library of Congress, as well as various books from history.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have had the pleasure of living in other countries and traveling to many others. I had the opportunity to teach English and American culture in China and Cambodia. In all my travels it was the stories of history that captivated me. I love to pass that excitement of learning history onto others through story telling and discussion.
