Hire an Elf! Critical Thinking and Decision Making Class for Christmas Fun
Class experience
There's a lot to do at the North Pole before Christmas Eve, and Santa Claus could really use a helping hand to get it all done! He wants to hire an elf to be his personal assistant, but he's so busy that he doesn't even have time to hire anyone! That's where we come in! Santa has asked me if I would be willing to put together a team of students who can help hire his new assistant! Of course I said, "YES!" because I know he needs our help and you are just the kid to add to this...
Students will read information about each elf in order to draw conclusions and make inferences about that elf. Students will learn to make an argument for why each elf deserves a certain score and be able to back that argument up with evidence from the text we read. Students will also practice persuasion skills as the group must agree on one score for each category.
I have been a classroom teacher for 19 years. I have often utilized similar activities in my classroom in order to help students practice inferencing skills, debating using text evidence, and persuasion in a way that is fun and has a "real world" application.
1 file available upon enrollmentA pencil and a printed copy of the Elf Candidate Score Sheet (this will be available for download in the classroom). Students may wear fun festive shirts or hats as well.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
