*Note* This class is currently only available to ages 10-14. If your child is outside of the age range and wishes to learn hiragana, please let me know so that I can make a new class for them. Hiragana is the foundation to Japanese writing, and it is recommended that students learn it before beginning their Japanese studies. So let's dive in together! Each class will consist of reading practice as well as a live writing session with the teacher. Fun games and mnemonic devices will be used to help students review and retain characters. In between classes students will have the opportunity to practice on their own, applying the characters via real Japanese words. Week 1: - Introduction to Japanese sounds, writing techniques, stroke order, written vs. typed Japanese. - あいうえお・かきくけこ・さしすせそ Week 2: -Reviewing and building upon previously learned hiragana -たちつてと・なにぬねの・はひふへほ Week 3: -Reviewing and building upon previously learned hiragana -まみむめも・やゆよ・らりるれろ -Japanese subscript Week 4: -わをん -dakuten and handakuten -Comprehensive review using real Japanese words and sentences This class is also available in a flex format, for students who are interested in learning hiragana but are unable to meet at the scheduled times. Teacher expertise and credentials
I taught ESL (English as a Second Language) in South Korea and Japan for seven years. My specialty is using fun games and activities to help students retain content. Language learning is a long and intimidating process, so I want to keep a positive environment and always encourage students.
I am currently in the process of obtaining an MA in Applied Linguistics, which means that I am up to date on language learning techniques, and willing to continue honing my skills. I also have a background in theatre education, which means I keep things upbeat and energetic in the classroom.
