In the final class students have an opportunity to perform their group choreography for friends and family if the teacher feels students are comfortable doing this.Class Experience
Let's dance! Building upon skills developed in Kids Hip Hop Dance Jam, students will expand their knowledge of Old School Hip Hop Dance moves and Street Jazz/ Commercial Hip Hop while creating choreography. Unlike a YouTube video or video game, students learn to do more than just follow. They’ll learn dance technique, Hip Hop terminology, how to create their own freestyle, and how to collaborate on choreography. In-class discussion will allow participants to ask questions and contribute movement ideas. Participants will have the benefit of observing their peers. The teacher will guide participants through a choreographed routine and use student input to shape the routine. We offer a friendly environment for students of all abilities and all genders. Even if your kiddo feels like they have no rhythm or 2 left feet, this class will empower them to find their own musicality. This class includes 25% discussion-based interaction with the teacher and peers. This class involves physical movement (all abilities are welcome). It is recommended for your child to have water nearby. Students should refrain from eating during class. What to expect in this class: -Class begins with a greeting and a short overview of the day - Students will be allowed to share during our 5-minute show and tell - Students will complete a short dance warm-up - Students will learn or review dance moves - Students will respond to the question of the day - Students will learn more dance moves -Students will develop a short choreographed routine - Students will have a short period of freestyle or freeze dance - Students will review a dance move that they can practice and if time permits reflect on their class experience Please note: This class is designed to encourage group interaction. Students should be able to mute and unmute themselves during class and are responsible for limiting distracting behavior (sharing one cool item from your room is fine, sharing your entire Pokemon collection is distracting). While student song requests are encouraged we are unable to play songs that contain profanity even if these songs are an important part of hip hop music history. This class contains a variety of music as hip hop dance is now seen in pop culture including television shows, Broadway shows, and commercials. If your child has music taste that are strictly of one artist or one style, then think carefully about whether this class will be for them. The playlist may include: KidzBop, James Brown, Trolls, Drake (that Kiki song), and more. If your child leaves class early a refund will not be issued. This class is interactive and students are asked to participate to the best of their ability. I respect that engagement may look different for each child, however, we ask students to be mindful of the group class experience.
