This class is designed to teach students Hindi through conversation, rather than learning lists of vocabulary words with no idea of how to put them together in a sentence! Topics build on each other, so students get lots of exposure to previously learned grammar and vocabulary. In each class, we will learn the new vocabulary with a slide show and pictures, play games, and use repetition to learn sentence structures. Topics include, but are not limited to, parts of the body, characteristics of people, parts of the house, food, days of the week, sports, seasons, weather, etc. Students are welcome to request topics they would like to learn and talk about! I do use some English in my classes to build rapport with and among students and to ensure understanding. Week 1 (01/27/2021) - Greetings we will learn expressions to use at different times of the day, and for casual and formal occasions along with greetings for "Hello", "How are you? (elder, younger)", "I am fine", etc. Week 2 (02/03/2021) - Numbers & Body Parts (1-10) Students will be learning numbers along with the body parts. They will also learn the Hindi word for "How many" and use it in sentence. Week 3 (02/10/2021) - Colors & Simple Sentences It is surprising how often we use color words to describe things on a daily basis. We will learn the colors, words and how to make simple sentences using those. Week 4 (02/17/2021) - Singular/Plural & Animals In this lesson, we will learn the grammar rule for singular and plural, learn to speak around 15 animals and use them in simple sentences. Week 5 (02/24/2021) - Focus on nouns, pronouns and verbs. In this lesson, we will learn the pronouns (i,we,he/she,they) and how to say different verbs in Hindi. Week 6 (03/03/2021) - Focus on making sentences using nouns, pronouns and verbs. In this lesson, we will learn how to make sentences using verbs.

With a degree in Computer Engineering, I have been teaching Math and Computer Science for more than 15 years. I have also coached First Lego League team of 10 students and helped the team reach regional championships.
I believe in project based learning as it requires a thorough understanding of concept, and not just recall or recognition. It can be used to apply an academic content in new contexts. And, it starts with an inquiry, which leads to a deeper learning of not only an academic content but also use of it in a real world applications.
