US Grade 1 - 4
This course is a good fit for learners who can read simple sentences and already know how to form letters, but just can't seem to write neatly. Learners will get to interact with the teacher and each other through discussion, slides, games, video clips, Q&A.... and best of all, jokes! Your learner will giggle themselves all the way to great handwriting! Every course, we will review important skills related to handwriting like pencil grip, arm/wrist placement, etc. Then, as we work our way through creating a hilarious joke book project, this class will cover the 5 stars of great handwriting, including: Letter formation Punctuation Appropriate spacing Capitalization Spelling As we work through this course, remember— it takes time to break habits and change muscle memory/improve fine motor skills. We will practice letter formation at every meeting (and as homework!) as well as focusing on one other “star” in 5 star writing. So, it’ll take all sessions for learners to practice all 5 stars-learners should be patient as their skills will gradually improve! Also, one of the best things about this course is that each time it runs, it is different. No two joke books will be the same because each specific class contributes the jokes and makes their own book! So, taking the class multiple times is always a great option, if needed. The more practice, the better! My teaching style is very interactive-- learners will be asked to be responsive. Research shows "whole brain teaching" is most effective for learners to gain and master new skills so learners should expect to be responding to cues (mostly as a group), moving their bodies, and practicing skills aloud. To ensure learners feel safe in this environment, the class will be kicked of with a respect mini lesson-- ie: mistakes are magic because they help us learn, what respect looks like/sounds like with examples and non-examples. Ultimately, learners will walk away from this class with improved spelling, a checklist for improved handwriting... and perhaps most importantly, a few laughs.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their 5-star handwriting.
