Students will learn to accept positive feedback and constructive feedback in stride. They will learn to take pride in their writing and in the editing process.
When offering constructive feedback about writing, I am mindful to aim for kindness in my approach. I am an experienced teacher of middle school and high school English.
Students should expect to spend 30 minutes to 4 hours on any given writing assignment. Each writing prompt is an invitation for the students to engage in individual writing experiences.
Access to a functioning computer and charger for typing up the writing assignments is required. Students also need to have access to either Google Drive or Microsoft Office 365. The teacher will use these platforms for editing feedback and class discussions.
The teacher will not provide a letter or number grade. Instead, the teacher will offer curated edits for each student.
No live meetings, and an estimated 4+ hours per week outside of class.
It would be most helpful if the parents could take on an active role in encouraging the students to stay on task with the writing assignments.
