US Grade 8 - 11
Is your student about to enter high school? Or, are they enrolled in high school but want to up-level their skills to perform their very best? This is the perfect high school success STARTER class for them! Designed by a Harvard graduate, this two-part class will go over the essential skills and tools needed to succeed in high school. This is a starter-level, foundational course. Taught 1-on-1 or in a small group (depending on enrollment), this class offers excellent value. Whether your student is feeling nervous or prepared, anxious or confident, this class will help your teen master the high school environment. The class is broken out into two sessions across two different days because we have several topics to cover in addition to Q&A time. Please note that there will be light homework assigned after the first session. The homework is meant to help your student reflect, process, and think actively. This class works best for students who are open-minded about learning and self-improvement! Broad topics that will be covered: - ACADEMIC SUCCESS: What does it take to structure your learning to do the best you can in your classes? How do you challenge yourself appropriately? - SOCIAL SUCCESS: How do you navigate the myriad complex social relationships you'll encounter in high school (friends, teachers, administration, parents, etc.)? - ADMINISTRATION and SCHOOL COUNSELOR NAVIGATION: How do you get what you need from the complex school administration? How do you make sure you take advantage of all the resources they offer? - EXTRACURRICULAR SUCCESS: How do you make sure you challenge yourself in terms of your activities and leadership? What sort of opportunities should you target? How do you pursue them? - COLLEGE PREP SUCCESS: How do get yourself ready for college applications? - Time for Q&A
Learning Goals
Students will gain important knowledge and skills in the areas of academic, social, administration navigation (specifically school counselor), extracurricular, and college prep success. They will also have a chance to ask questions in a Q&A session.
