Students do not attend classes on designated holidays. ✮ INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH ✮ For this course, we will use a flipped-classroom approach. A flipped classroom means that students read or watch a lesson prior to their class meeting. In class, students will learn through exercises and guided activities. We will use the class time to review and practice the concepts listed in the course calendar. The flipped classroom allows us to focus our attention on "trouble" areas and master those domains before moving on to the next lesson. ✮ COURSE OUTCOME ✮ At the end of this semester-long course (Sessions A, B, C), students will have the grammatical and communicative competence to advance to High School Spanish: Year 2. ✮ GRADES WILL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING ASSIGNMENTS✮ Mi diario (writing) Lecturas (reading) Cultural event Class participation Homework assignments Quizzes Oral presentation Unit exams Final exam Notice to students & parents: Final grades will be posted at the conclusion of Session C. Students will receive a progress report after Sessions A & B. Progress Reports will be sent to parents 1-week after the conclusion of the session. ✮ AWARDING OF GRADES & CREDIT ✮ A = 90% - 100%, B = 80% -89.99%, C = 70% -79.99%, D = 60% - 69.99%, F = 0% - 59.99%; --------------------------- (No round-ups.) --No final grade of 'Incomplete' will be awarded. --A grade of 'D' may prevent students from enrolling in a second-year Spanish course. ✮ ALTERNATE AWARDING OF GRADES ✮ Upon request, a grade of Pass/Fail or a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion is also available. ✮ MORE ABOUT THIS COURSE ✮ ❧This semester-long course is divided into three sessions (A, B, and C). ❧ Each session takes place over a period of five weeks; for a grand total of 15 weeks. ❧This course follows a college semester format; it is similar to the high school, 4x4 block schedule. ❧Students must enroll in all three sections in order to receive full credit. Partial credit will not be awarded. ❧Students who successfully complete all three sections (A, B, and C) will earn 1.0 credit for Spanish 1 or a Certificate of Completion. ❧Please note that the acceptance of credits may vary from institution to institution and state to state. Consult your current state laws, local homeschool legal defense group, or high school counselor before enrolling in this course. Acceptance of credit cannot be guaranteed.
