Spanish 1 Adolescents

Bienvenidos a la clase de español.  This class is for students between the ages of 13 - 17  who have little to no background in Spanish.  

Spanish 1 focuses on basic vocabulary acquisition, basic grammar, including person, pronouns, articles, and verb conjugation, while also focusing on the geography and cultures of the Spanish speaking world.   

There will be significant focus on students speaking and hearing the target language. Language is dynamic and students are therefore encouraged  to be active participants in their learning. This will help them walk away with the greatest amount of learning. This class does not work without a microphone. 

Students will need to join the Google Classroom to use outside the webinar. This will facilitate sharing presentations, additional materials, and submission of independent student work.  

There will be reading selections in preparation for each class, and students are expected to fully participate in class discussions, contributing ideas gleaned from readings and research. 

Students should be prepared to spend approximately three hours per week studying Spanish outside of class time.  

THERE ARE TWO EXTRA DATES BUILT INTO THE SEMESTER. THESE SESSIONS WILL ONLY MEET IF THERE IS A NEED TO HOLD MAKEUP SESSIONS, DUE TO ILLNESS OR OTHER LIFE EVENTS. I INCLUDE THEM FROM THE OUTSET FOR EASE OF SCHEDULING.
