The course will be structured around a teacher-led slide lecture that will be presented in video format. Week 1Lesson 1Greetings, Tú vs Usted, Costa RicaIn this lesson students will learn greetings and departures for vocabulary, tú vs usted for grammar and for culture we will focus on the beautiful Costa RicaWeek 2Lesson 2Numbers, Letter Sounds in Spanish, Puerto RicoIn this lesson we will have numbers as our vocabulary section, letter sounds for grammar and Puerto Rico for culture.Week 3Lesson 3Calendar, telling time in Spanish, SpainIn this lesson we will focus on calendar terminology such as month, seasons and days of the week, students will learn how to tell time in Spanish for grammar and I will focus on Spain for culture.Week 4Lesson 4School, Personal Pronouns, Question Words, Dominican RepublicIn this lesson students will learn school terminology as well as question words in Spanish, they will also learn personal / subject pronouns and the country of the lesson is The Dominican Republic.Week 5Lesson 5Clothing, Definite/Indefinite Articles, Feminine vs Masculine words, BoliviaIn this lesson I will present articles of clothing for vocabulary as well as some adjectives to describe the clothing, for grammar students will learn about both definite and indefinite articles, the gender rules in Spanish such as knowing how to tell if a word is masculine or feminine and how to correctly pair it with an adjective, and for culture students will be presented Bolivia.Week 6Lesson 6Geography, Gender (cont.) and Plurality, HondurasThis lesson will focus on geography terminology, identifying whether a word in masculine or feminine and being able to make a word plural as well as making sure to agree nouns, articles and adjectives in short phrases. The country that this lesson focuses on is HondurasWeek 7Lesson 7Animals, Ser vs Estar, ArgentinaIn this lesson students will learn a wide variety of animal terminology, they will learn the difference between "ser and estar" which both translate to "to be" in English and the country that will be presented is Argentina.Week 8Lesson 8Family, Ser and Possessive Adjectives, EcuadorIn this lesson students will learn family vocabulary, grammar will focus on "ser" and also using possessive adjectives in short sentences and the country of the lesson is Ecuador.Week 9Lesson 9Around Town, Estar and Prepositions of Location, ColombiaIn this lesson students will learn Spanish vocabulary that focuses on locations around town, grammar will focus on "estar" as well as prepositions of locations, students will be able to describe where a building is located by comparing it to its surroundings. Students will also learn about Colombia in the culture portion of the presentation.Week 10Lesson 10Food, The Verb Gustar, NicaraguaStudents will learn a variety of food terminology, students will also learn about the verb gustar and how to form sentences using it in Spanish. They will be able to relay what they like or don't like in Spanish not only in first person, but also in 2nd person and 3rd person. For culture this lesson focuses on Nicaragua.Week 11Lesson 11Body Parts, The Verb Doler, PanamaThis lesson will teach the Spanish translations of the most common body parts, it will also teach how to say someone is in pain as well as what is hurting and it will teach students how to ask if someone is in pain. Students will learn all about the verb doler as well as the country of Panama (in the attached culture presentation)Week 12Lesson 12Common Verbs, Intro to Verb Conjugations, ParaguayIn this last lesson of semester 1 students will be introduced to a list of some of the most common verbs in Spanish. Students will also be introduced to verb conjugations of AR, ER, and IR verbs in the present tense, for culture the country presented in this lesson is Paraguay.
By the end of the course students will have a basic vocabulary foundation, Know the main question words and correct punctuation in a Spanish sentence, understand how nouns and adjectives have to grammatically agree with each other in short Spanish phrases/sentences. Students will have a basic understanding of Spanish sentence structure, know the difference between ser and estar, be able to greet one another in Spanish, tell time, give specific dates and express their likes and dislikes as well as express if they are in pain. Students will learn about cultures form 12 different Spanish speaking countries.
A little about me: I have taught at all levels from preschool to college. I also have studied abroad in Central America. I have my Master’s in Spanish ED (K-12), Bachelor’s Degrees in both Spanish and Anthropology, a Master’s Certificate in Latin American Studies, a Certificate in Medical Interpreting (Spanish), and a level 5 TEFL Certificate to teach English as a second language. I am also happy to say I have been part of the Outschool family for 4 years now

For the online games I will use Word Wall however I will provide individual links to specific games, students will not have access to the full website
