This is the second of four 6 week sessions that make up a 4 part series that can last throughout the school year. Watch for Drawing: Parts 3- 4 upon completion of this session. Week 1: Simplify photos of microscopic cells to create dynamic abstract designs. Create and understand color scheme choices. Blend and use oil pastel techniques. Line, Contours, Value, Form, Grid Method Drawing. Week 2: Use compositional rules students will find a high resolution photograph of an animal to use as reference. Mix colors using oil pastels in small scale study and in final art. Demonstrate an understanding of composition in final art. Create texture using oil pastels. Week 3/4: Learn about John James Audubon and his famous publication, “Birds of America”. Create a value scale through the use of mark making such as hatching/cross-hatching and stippling on digitally created scratchboard. "Etch" a sphere on scratchboard. Identify contour lines and value shifts in photographic reference of a bird of their choice. Use knowledge of mark-making and values to create a bird with realistic texture on a scratchboard surface. Week 5: Match up words and their meaning with a visual. Learn to shade effectively. Use abstract thinking to create art thatmakes a word. Week 6: We will create a piece that brings together all of our work so far! Three mediums drawing.
There will be weekly homework that will need to be completed before our class time together. Homework will be sent one week before - giving 6 days to complete. Students will get the most of the class when homeowrk is fully completed each week. Week 1: Find reference picture of cells. Week 2: Find reference photo of animal. Week 3/4 : Reference picture of bird. Learn about John James Audubon and his famous publication, “Birds of America”. Week 5: Research and find photographic refererence for word image. Week 6: Complete a value scale and shaded sphere in charcoal, ink and colored pencil (or oil pastel).
This class will be held using digital devices - iPad or iPhone. Students can use a stylus or their finger. I will be using Procreate for our class time together. A working knowledge of the digital app is necessary for students - as the programs WILL NOT be taught. (Remember that my Intro series can introduce new learners to Procreate) If your student would like to join us on paper and pencil, with markers and paints - that is fine too!!!
